Worried about your child's sugar intake? Here's a simple guide to help Indian parents manage sweetness for healthier kids:
Under 2 Years: Strictly NO Added Sugar! For infants and toddlers below two, health experts are clear: absolutely NO added sugar. This critical period helps establish healthy taste preferences for life.
Ages 2-18: Less than 6 Teaspoons a Day! For children and adolescents, the recommendation is to aim for less than 6 teaspoons (or 25 grams) of added sugar per day. To put this into perspective:
4-6 years: Max 5 sugar cubes (19g)
7-10 years: Max 6 sugar cubes (24g)
11+ years: Max 7 sugar cubes (30g)
Remember, this is about added sugars, not the natural sugars found in a fresh mango or a glass of plain milk. Making informed choices now can safeguard your child's future.
